Welcome to the DoodleTech FAQ page! Here, we’ve compiled answers to some of the most common questions we receive about our laser cut and CNC routed products / services. If you can’t find the information you’re looking for, feel free to contact us directly for more assistance.

Sustainability and Materials

Does the material you use come from sustainable sources?

Yes, all of the sheet materials we use are sourced through reputable UK suppliers. They carry FSC certification and comply with UK standards, ensuring sustainability and quality.

What material do you use?

The majority of our products are made from premium, high-quality MDF. We also work with:

  • Veneered MDF
  • Plywood
  • Melamine-faced chipboards
  • Acrylics

Can you cut and supply other materials?

Yes, we can cut a wide range of materials, including:

  • Manufactured boards
  • Plastic-based materials
  • Dibond

If you need a specific material, contact us with your requirements, and we’ll be happy to advise.

Customisation and Manufacturing

Can you cut and manufacture bespoke designs and projects?

Absolutely! If you have a custom design or project, contact us with your requirements. We also offer a custom design and drawing service for customers who do not have access to drawing software.

What is the largest size you can cut?

We operate multiple laser cutters, etchers, and CNC routers:

  • Laser Cutters: Accommodate sheets up to 1300x900mm.
  • CNC Routers: Handle sheets ranging from standard 8x4ft (1220x2440mm) to a maximum size of 5x13ft (1500x4000mm).

Assembly, Decorating & Painting

How do I assemble a kit?

Our kits are designed for straightforward assembly, often slotting together easily. Assembly instructions are included, and our team is available to assist if needed.

Painting & Decorating

  • Our products are shipped in their raw, bare wooden state, ready for painting and decorating.
  • If you’ve ordered a flat-pack kit, assemble it before painting. Painting beforehand may interfere with the tabs and slots designed for a rigid and strong fit.
  • Unfortunately, we do not offer painting or decorating services, as we focus on high-volume shape manufacturing and CNC cutting.

Can you assemble a kit for me?

Some items come pre-assembled, while others may require tools and equipment. We do offer an assembly service for certain kits, which incurs a surcharge. Contact us to discuss this option.

What glue do you recommend using?

We recommend using a strong wood adhesive like Evo-Stick wood glue. These adhesives are easy to work with and can be painted over once fully cured.

Do I need to prime, seal, or sand my item before decorating it?

MDF has a smooth finish by default and doesn’t necessarily need priming or sealing, depending on your desired finish. However, some paints require a primer or seal. Check the manufacturer’s instructions for guidance.

Most of our CNC-routed MDF products are sanded before dispatch, but additional light sanding may be needed for your desired finish.

What paint would you recommend?

The paint choice depends on your preferred finish. Use a paint you are comfortable with, and always test or research before decorating. Ensure your paint is compatible with MDF or the material used.

Can I use other methods to decorate my item?

Yes! Our products can be decorated with:

  • Paints
  • Gel pens
  • Glitter
  • Inks
  • And more!

Again please check to make sure the product you are using is suitable for MDF.

Wall Brackets and Fixings

My product came with wall brackets. Where do they go?

If you purchased a shelving kit, fixings are included. Since we don’t know your specific wall setup, here’s a guide:

  • Space the brackets evenly across the product’s width / height to distribute weight.
  • Use larger brackets at the top and smaller ones at the bottom.
  • Secure the brackets with the small screws and screw cups provided to prevent protrusion through the material.
  • Always follow the instruction manual provided.

Packaging, Breakages, Returns & Mistakes

How will my order be packaged?

At DoodleTech, we prioritize sustainable packaging wherever possible. Our practices include:

  • Purchasing surplus, brand-new boxes from other companies to prevent them from going to landfill.
  • Using recycled boxes and shredded cardboard, processed in-house, to reduce waste and minimize environmental impact.
  • Thoroughly inspecting all recycled materials to ensure they are clean and fit for purpose, including boxes repurposed into sheet matting.

These efforts not only help the environment but also allow us to reduce costs and pass those savings on to our customers, keeping our item prices as low as possible.

Packaging Methods

Depending on the courier service for your order, we use a variety of packaging methods:

  • Small Orders (Royal Mail): Shipped in padded jiffy bags, cardboard large letter boxes and small parcel boxes.
  • Larger Orders: Sent in new or recycled cardboard boxes or other suitable packaging, with adequate filling to ensure safe delivery.

What should I do if an item is broken in transit?

Despite our best efforts to securely package your items, occasional damage can occur due to courier mishandling. If you receive a damaged item, please contact us within seven days of receiving your order. We will replace the damaged goods free of charge, provided you supply:

  • Proof of the damage.
  • Photos of the packaging in which the item was shipped.

Please note: Items that have been decorated cannot be refunded or replaced.

Can I return my order for a refund?

Yes, you can return eligible orders. Please refer to our returns policy for full details on eligibility and procedures.

What if there is a mistake with my personalised order?

It is crucial to double-check your personalisation details, including spelling and punctuation, before completing checkout. We engrave or carve exactly what is provided at the time of purchase.

  • If the error was made during ordering, we cannot replace the item.
  • If the mistake is on our part, we will provide a replacement free of charge with expedited delivery.

Payments & Bulk Buy Discounts

Do you offer discounts?

Our website features set pricing, including bulk-buy packs with pre-applied discounted rates per unit. We also run special promotions and flash sales on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, so be sure to follow us and subscribe to our mailing list for the latest deals.

Do you offer bulk buy discounts for large orders?

Yes, we specialize in wholesale wooden craft supplies. With a large fleet of laser cutters and CNC routers, we can manufacture large quantities in a short timeframe. Contact us to discuss your bulk order requirements further.

What payment types do you accept?

  • Our website accepts all major credit and debit cards and Apple Pay.
  • BACS transfers for purchases based on generated price quotes and invoices.

Postage & Delivery Questions

How much does postage cost?

Postage costs vary based on the overall weight of your order, which determines the required courier service. For detailed postage bands, please refer to our shipping policy.

Who will deliver my parcel?

The size and type of your order determine the courier used:

  • Small orders and single items are shipped via Royal Mail.
  • Medium-sized orders are sent through Evri or Parcelforce.
  • Larger and next-day delivery orders are dispatched using Parcelforce or an alternative courier, depending on your location.

How long will my order take to reach me?

  • Orders sent via Royal Mail and Evri typically take 2-5 working days for delivery.
  • Parcelforce shipments are delivered using a 24-hour or 48-hour service, depending on the size and value of the order.

Please note: Turnaround and cut-off times are not included in these delivery estimates.

Can I collect my order from you?

Yes, collection is available. Please contact us before placing your order to arrange a suitable collection time.
